What is Trenchless Plumbing?

During Sewer Replacement

Having a problem with your sewer pipes used to be nightmare. Why? Because the large, old pipes that make up your sewer line system are located underground – under your lawn, concrete, or other landscaping. Accessing them used to require digging and removing large portions of yard, flooring, and walls to expose the pipes and make costly replacements to your entire sewer pipe system. Trenchless technology repairs and structurally restores existing pipes internally rather than by disruptive, costly excavating followed by conventional pipe repair.
The trenchless technique avoids landscape destruction and digging by drilling a hole at each end of the pipeline and threading a steel cable through the existing sewer line. This breaks up the old pieces and pushes them into the surrounding dirt. The result is that the smooth replacement pipe is even stronger than your current pipe!

Trenchless Sewer Repair vs. Replacement

Our technicians will inspect your line to determine the cause and solution of the problem. Repair may be an option if the issue is only in one section of the pipe. But for older lines or if the line is in generally poor condition, replacement may be the recommended course of action.

Benefits of Trenchless vs. Traditional

Besides the lower cost and disruption to your property, there are other benefits to trenchless over traditional plumbing. Trenchless pipe lining is eco-friendly. Allowing your existing pipes with a solid frame to be recycled, we use pipe lining to repair pipes from the inside-out. The lining, Epoxy resin, can last for years to come and often be installed in a single day.

The ability to rehabilitate your existing pipes without digging or destruction means there is minimum disruption to your daily life. With traditional methods, you may be without plumbing for days, and be exposed to septic fluid or other hazardous wastes. This is not the case with trenchless options, because the most that is needed is usually two small holes at either end of the pipeline.

How Does It Work?

Both trenchless sewer line repair and replacement  leaves your existing pipe intact and installs a “cured in place” pipe (CIPP) inside it. It’s “pipe inside a pipe” that is 1/8 inch thick and seals joints, cracks, and holes. We use the following steps for trenchless sewer pipes:

  • Our technicians perform an in-pipe video inspection to determine the nature of the problem and assess the condition of the line.
  • We clear the existing line of roots and mineral scale, typically by using high-pressure hydro jetting.
  • We insert a non-toxic epoxy-saturated liner and press it into place using a calibration tube or bladder.
  • Within an hour typically, the epoxy lining heats up and cures (solidifies).
  • After deflating and removing the bladder, we perform another remote video camera inspection to make sure that everything is as it should be.
