A university in San Marcos, CA called ASAP Drain Guys & Plumbing because a vehicle had driven by and ran over two of their backflow prevention devices. Our technician provided an estimate to replace units and received approval to proceed with the work.
A team of technicians arrived on site and began to jackhammer the concrete out and trench dirt to expose the underground water lines. Once the lines were exposed, the technician cut out both water line risers and installed a new section of 1 1/2″ PVC piping and tying into irrigation system. New 1 1/2″ copper risers were installed and new 1 1/2″ ball valve and Y strainer. The new 1 1/2″ backflow device was ready to be installed with ball valves. A new 1 1/2″ double union pressure regulator. Pieces of wood were installed around the new backflow device with a backflow cage setter. Concrete was then poured into the wooden structure. After the concrete was dried out, a weatherproof backflow cage with lock was installed
For the second 2″ backflow, the technicians began by cutting both 2″ brass risers and then threaded both 2″ brass risers. The technicians soldered in new section of 2″ copper piping to brass risers. The technicians then installed a new 2″ backflow device with ball valves. Water was then turned on at water meter to 2″ backflow device. Water was then bled out the air from the water line by opening up the hosebibs on the property. Both hosebibs on the property began to leak and would not shut water off. Repairs were made to the shut off valves by City of San Marcos and then ASAP’s repairs were tested for leaks and proper function.
